SUMMARY:
There are several strong indications that this is a case of an alleged hijacker and his double.
Nawaf Alhazmi is described by an agent at Dulles Airport as « awfully thin almost underfed ». This seems in stark contrast to the images we do have of him. Please note that the same description at Dulles on 911 concerning his brother Salem also is in stark contrast to the given weight and height on Salem’s ID!
Though he is normally placed on the East coast before the attacks several witnesses in San Diego recalled having seen moving out only days before 911,
When he’s caught speeding the police agent recalled Nawaf spoke English « well » though normally his English is described as bad.
How come Nawaf Alhazmi was identified by Able Danger as being part of the Brooklyn group in January 2000 though he just arrived in the US the same month, in California to be exactly?
He most likely entered the US before his official entrance date.
His name is on the lease of the apartment in November 1999 already though officially he entered the country only in January 2000.
If he only entered the US in January 2000 then why did he apply for a visa in March 1999 already?
If this is true it would mean either that he travelled from the US to the meeting in Malaysia or there are two Nawafs we’re talking about.
Please note that his visa expired in August 2001. Why didn’t he seek a visa that would have been valid until September 11 or tried to renew it?
As Almihdhar and Nawaf Alhazmi disappear for two weeks right after they arrived in the US and the FBI has no clue what they did.
How come FBI Mueller states he moved in February-March 2000 to Arizona and then to Virginia though many accounts place him as staying in San Diego for a much longer period of time?
How come that his official name on Sep 14 (Nawaq) doesn’t even show up on the list of alias he used (btw have a look how originally he used his « alias »!)?
Why is Laurel not mentioned as a residence in the FBI list?
Why does the finnlist not mention any address in San Diego?
Why does it mention instead an address in Lemon Grove, CA?
Why does the finnlist not remark “possibly deceased” but “possibly SSAN 199-90-9382”?
Why does his name differ on the finnlist from the FBI list?
Please note: The Hazmi brothers’ identifications were found in the rubble at the Pentagon and appeared genuine upon examination.
(Terrorist Travel, 35)
Unfortunately in the Moussaoui trial only one is show which is more likely to be the one of Nawaf as Lexington, New York is given as an adress.
See: http://www.vaed.uscourts.gov/notablecases/…on/PE00102A.jpg
Please note that the photo seems to be different from the Nawaf with beard we know; At least we can recognize that there he had shaved. Moreover the first two letters of his first name don’t seem to be “Na”.
Last but not least please note the work of Kevin Fenton:

(ABC News, 1/9/02)
1996:
Some reports even have Nawaf Alhazmi and Almihdhar visiting the US as early as 1996.
(Wall Street Journal, 9/17/01)
http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_home/200…s/17309944.html
Since 1996 for several years:
Nawaf Alhazmi fights in Chechnya, Bosnia, and Afghanistan for several years, starting around 1995.
http://intelligence.senate.gov/0209hrg/020926/witness.htm
http://observer.guardian.co.uk/waronterror…,556695,00.html
(ABC News, 1/9/02)
1998 :
He bought with Almihdhar “a car in 1998, a Toyota Corolla with California license plates.”
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2001/09/14/…ain311329.shtml
March 21, 1999:
“Hazmi’s passport was new–issued on March 21, 1999, and it contained an indicator of extremism that has been associated with al Qaeda”
(Terrorist Travel, 9)
April 3, 1999 A:
“Nawaf al Hazmi applied for a B-1/B-2 (tourist/business) visa in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, submitting a written visa application, his passport, and a photograph”.
(Terrorist Travel, 9)
Also : http://www.cooperativeresearch.org/timelin…arta072403.html
Visa:
http://www.rcfp.org/moussaoui/jpg/size600/SD00405-1.jpg
“Both Hazmi and Mihdhar’s visa applications were destroyed before September 11, according to routine State Department document destruction practices in place in Jeddah, so we could not review them. The electronic records of their applications, their photographs, and information about the visas issued to them still exist, however, and are maintained in the State Department’s Consular Consolidated Database (CCD), and we have reviewed this material”
(Terrorist Travel, 9f)
The CIA claims the hijackers then travel to Afghanistan to participate in “special training” with at least one other suicide bomber on a different mission. The training is led by Khallad bin Attash.
http://www.cooperativeresearch.org/timelin…arta072403.html
April 3, 1999 B:
“Hazmi’s visa was issued (…a) one-year, multiple-entry visa(s).”
(Terrorist Travel, 10)
Fall 1999:
“The only report linking Alhazmi to Florida surfaced earlier this week in a bizarre Associated Press story out of Wyoming. This account, which cited the Cody Enterprise newspaper as its source, reported that police had placed Alhazmi in Cody in the fall of 1999.
Witnesses said Alhazmi was one of two men who made a truck delivery from Canada to Cody High School. Alhazmi reeked of body odor and perfume and was dressed in silky clothing, pointed leather shoes and many gold chains and jewelry.
The two men, who spoke poor English, asked for directions to Florida, police said.”
http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_home/200…s/17309944.html
Comment: Another indication for him having a double.
November 1999:
The Washington Post refers to hijackers Nawaf Alhazmi and Khalid Almihdhar when it later reports, “In November 1999, two Saudi Arabian men moved into a ground-floor apartment at the Parkwood Apartments, a town house complex near a busy commercial strip in San Diego.”
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/natio…igation_24.html
Alhazmi’s name is on the apartment lease beginning in November 1999.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/natio…igation_24.html
The Los Angeles Times similarly notes, “A man by (the name Alhazmi) moved to the Parkwood Apartments in San Diego in 1999, according to manager Holly Ratchford.” http://web.archive.org/web/20030812100412/…0,3617363.story
Comment: There does not appear to be any documentation on how he entered the country.
“The manager said Alhamzi, polite and an “attractive guy,” was cleanshaven, about 5 feet, 4 inches, with a thin build”
(Los Angeles Times, 9/15/01)
January 2-5, 2000:
Hijackers Nawaf Alhazmi and Khalid Almihdhar travel to an important al-Qaeda meeting in Malaysia. Alhazmi is in Pakistan with a ticket to Malaysia for January 2. CIA and Pakistani officials plan to have his passport scrutinized as he passes through the airport, but he changes his ticket departure date twice. Officials get confused and are not there when he leaves the country, so they still don’t learn his last name.

January 5-8, 2000:
About a dozen of bin Laden’s trusted followers hold a secret, “top-level al-Qaeda summit” in the city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Plans for the October 2000 bombing of the USS Cole and the 9/11 attacks are discussed.
http://edition.cnn.com/2002/WORLD/asiapcf/…0/seasia.state/
At the request of the CIA, the Malaysian Secret Service monitors the meeting and then passes the information on to the US. Attendees of the meeting include:
Hijackers Nawaf Alhazmi and Khalid Almihdhar.
January 8, 2000:
The al-Qaeda summit in Malaysia ends and the participants leave. Hijackers Nawaf Alhazmi and Khalid Almihdhar fly to Bangkok, Thailand, traveling under their real names. al-Qaeda leader Khallad bin Attash also travels with them and the three sit side by side in the airplane, but bin Attash travels under the false name “Salah Said.”
http://www.cooperativeresearch.org/timelin…arta072403.html
http://www.cooperativeresearch.org/timelin…2/ap092002.html
The CIA knows that a “Nawaf” has attended the meeting, but does not know his last name. Shortly afterwards, the CIA is told of this airplane flight, and the fact that the person sitting next to Almihdhar on the plane is named “Nawaf Alhazmi.” CIA Headquarters asks the NSA to put Almihdhar on their watch list.
http://www.9-11commission.gov/archive/hear…_2004-01-26.htm
However, neither Alhazmi nor Almihdhar are placed on a terror watch list.
January 8-15, 2000:
“Nawaf Alhazmi and Khalid Almihdhar stay in Thailand.”
CR, 159
January 15, 2000:
“Al-Hazmi along with Khalid al-Mihdhar had arrived in Los Angeles on January 15, 2000 from Bangkok, Thailand. ”
http://intelligence.senate.gov/0209hrg/020926/witness.htm
“The two Saudis were admitted as tourists for six-month stays by the same primary immigration inspector, who was unaware of the indicators of extremism likely present in their passports. Neither Hazmi nor Mihdhar was on the watchlists available to border inspectors”
(Terrorist Travel, 10)
January 15 – End of January, 2000:
“On January 15, Hazmi and Mihdhar arrived in Los Angeles. They spent about two weeks there before moving on to San Diego. (…)Our inability to ascertain the activities of Hazmi and Mihdhar during their first two weeks in the United States. ”
CR, 216
February 1, 2000:
“We do not pick up their trail until February 1, 2000, when they encountered Omar al Bayoumi and Caysan Bin Don at a halal food restaurant on Venice Boulevard in Culver City, a few blocks away from the King Fahd mosque.”
CR, 217
After meeting them and after bringing them to San Diego, he finds them a place to live. Al-Bayoumi lives at the Villa Balboa apartments with a wife and children, and the two hijackers move into the Parkwood apartments directly across the street.
(Los Angeles Times, 9/1/02)
http://www.cooperativeresearch.org/timelin…cury102101.html
It appears the lease was actually signed by Alhazmi a few months earlier. Al-Bayoumi cosigns the lease and pays $1,500 cash for their first month’s rent and security deposit.
http://www.cooperativeresearch.org/timelin…arta072403.html
(Newsweek, 11/24/02)
February 4, 2000:
By that day “Hazmi and Mihdhar had come to San Diego from Los Angeles, possibly driven by Mohdar Abdullah. (…)We thus do not know when or how Hazmi and Mihdhar first came to San Diego. We do know that on February 4, they went to the Islamic Center of San Diego to find Omar al Bayoumi and take him up on his offer of help.”
CR, 218
Early February-Summer 2000:
Nawaf Alhazmi and Khalid Almihdhar move to San Diego and live there openly.

February 8 – March 16, 2001:
“Hanjour (…) traveled with al-Hazmi to Arizona where he spent time at Jet Tech taking simulator lessons for a Boeing 737 from February 8, 2001 through March 16, 2001.
After Arizona, Hanjour and al-Hazmi continued eastward settling in the Alexandria, Virginia area. ”

Comments: Strange as other accounts do have him still in San Diego!
April 2000:
Alhamzi shows up at the National Air College Flight School in San Diego. He wants to fly a plane. But the school questions his limited knowledge of English and he gets only one lesson.
http://www.sptimes.com/News/092701/Worldan…_the_terr.shtml
Comment: Should be the same as on April 10.
April 2, 2000:
“Nawaf al Hazmi’s visa expired, but that expiration had no bearing on his legal status in the United States. Any visitor who enters the country with a valid visa may remain through the length of stay granted by an immigration inspector upon arrival.”
(Terrorist Travel, 10)
April 5, 2000:
“Mihdhar and Nawaf al Hazmi acquired California driver’s licenses”.

April 18, 2000:
“Al-Hazmi received a.$5,000 wire transfer through a third party from “All” (believed to be Ali Abdul Aziz Ali) sent from the UAE. As we discovered later, Aziz sent money from the UAE to other hijackers as well.”

Alhazmi and Khalid Almihdhar arrive at Sorbi’s Flying Club, a small school also in San Diego. They announce that they want to learn to fly Boeing airliners.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn?p…9¬Found=true
May 5, 2000:
“On May. 5, 2000 and May 10, 2000, al-Mihdhar and al-Hazmi each took introductory flying lessons and bought a Jeppesen flight training kit. During this time frame, al-Hazmi was also enrolled in English classes.”

May 10, 2000:
“On May. 5, 2000 and May 10, 2000, al-Mihdhar and al-Hazmi each took introductory flying lessons and bought a Jeppesen flight training kit. During this time frame, al-Hazmi was also enrolled in English classes.”
http://intelligence.senate.gov/0209hrg/020926/witness.htm
“Hazmi and Mihdhar finally found a room to rent in the home of an individual they had met at a mosque in San Diego. According to the homeowner, the future hijackers moved in on May 10, 2000. (…) Hazmi, on the other hand, stayed at this house for the rest of his time in California, until mid-December”
CR, 220
Comment: Funny that a “tested” undercover “asset” working for the local FBI becomes in the CR simply the “homeowner”.
“Nawaf Alhazmi and Khalid Almihdhar move to the house of Abdussattar Shaikh in San Diego.”
http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/nation/…6-sdattack.html
Shaikh, a local Muslim leader, is later revealed to be a “tested” undercover “asset” working with the local FBI.
(Newsweek, 9/9/02)
online: http://www.propagandamatrix.com/the_inform…e_hijackers.htm
Shaikh inexplicably fails to tell his FBI handler important details about the hijackers and appears to be lying about many matters concerning them. In early media reports, the two are said to have moved in around September

but the 9/11 Congressional Inquiry implies that Shaikh lied about this, and they moved in much earlier. Alhazmi stays until December; Almihdhar appears to be mostly out of the US after June.

End of May 2000:
“Hazmi and Mihdhar had given up on learning how to fly.”
CR, 222
June 2000:
“A man named Mohdar Abdullah – recalled a trip with Hazmi and Mihdhar to Los Angeles in June when, on their arrival, the three went to the King Fahd mosque.”

June 9, 2000:
“Hazmi and Mohdar Abdullah accompanied him (Al Mihdhar) to Los Angeles”.
CR, 222
July 12, 2000:
“Nawaf al Hazmi filed to extend his stay in the United States, which was due to expire on July 14, 2000. Yet another opportunity to spot the suspicious indicator of extremism in his passport.”
(Terrorist Travel, 12)
Fall 2000:
“Hazmi no longer even pretended to study English or take flying lessons. Aware that his co-conspirators in Afghanistan and Pakistan would be sending him a new colleague shortly, he bided his time and worked for a few weeks at a gas station in La Mesa where some of his friends, including Abdullah, were employed. On one occasion, Hazmi told a fellow employee that he was planning to find a better job, and let slip a prediction that he would become famous.”
CR, 223
December 8, 2000:
“Hani Hanjour arrived in San Diego, having traveled from Dubai via Paris and Cincinnati. Hazmi likely picked up Hanjour at the airport. We do not know where Hanjour stayed; a few days later, both men left San Diego. ”

From March 2001:
In 2004, an unnamed whistleblower involved in the Able Danger program will claim that prior to 9/11, Able Danger discovered that Atta and Alshehhi were renting a room at the Wayne Inn, and occasionally meeting with Nawaf Alhazmi and Khalid Almihdhar at the inn or near it. From March 2001 onwards, other alleged hijackers, including Alhazmi and Almihdhar, live in Paterson, New Jersey, only one mile away from Wayne.
http://edition.cnn.com/2001/US/09/26/inv.newjersey.cities/
Mid-March 2001:
Hijackers Ahmed Alghamdi, Majed Moqed, Hani Hanjour, and Nawaf Alhazmi stay for four days in the Fairfield Motor Inn, Fairfield, Connecticut. They meet with Eyad M. Alrababah, a Jordanian living in Bridgeport, who has been charged with providing false identification to at least 50 illegal aliens. This meeting takes place about six weeks before the FBI says Moqed and Alghamdi enter the US.
http://www.cooperativeresearch.org/timelin…uiry092602.html
Comment: Why does the CR clearly contradict the Inquiry Hearing? Maybe cause Moqed and Alghamdi weren’t at the time given by the Inquiry not yet officially in the US? See: May 8, 2001.
March 19, 2001:

“Al-Hazmi was driving east along the interstate — about 50 miles after crossing into Oklahoma — when he was caught by radar going 85 mph. The speed limit was 70.
It was 6:06 p.m. April 1. Parkins would be with al-Hazmi 12 minutes.
He said the driver was short and spoke English well, but he can’t recall anything that was said.”
http://www.cooperativeresearch.org/timelin…oman012002.html
Comment: In got old tradition they are caught speeding. Please note that contrary to all other accounts where he barely speaks English Parkins points out that Nawaf spoke English well. Lack of geography: He was caught in Oklahoma. Does this pose any contradiction?
By as early as April 4, 2001:
“Hanjour and Hazmi had arrived in Falls Church, Virginia. ”

Hani Hanjour and Salem Alhazmi rent a one-room apartment in Paterson, New Jersey. Hanjour signs the lease. Nawaf Alhazmi, Saeed Alghamdi, and Mohamed Atta are also seen coming and going by neighbors. One unnamed hijacker has to be told by a neighbor how to screw in a light bulb.

(Associated Press, 10/7/01)
The 9/11 Commission’s account of this differs from previous press accounts, and has Hanjour and Nawaf Alhazmi (instead of his brother Salem) first moving to Paterson in mid-May.
(CR, 230)
According to an anonymous Able Danger official speaking to the Bergen Record, a US Army intelligence unit tasked with assembling information about al-Qaeda networks worldwide discovers that several of the 9/11 hijackers are taking rooms at motels in New Jersey and meeting together there. The intelligence unit, called Able Danger, which uses high-speed computers to analyze vast amounts of data, notices that Mohamed Atta and Marwan Alshehhi take a room at the Wayne Inn. After the existence of the Able Danger unit comes to light in 2005, Bergen Record columnist and reporter Mike Kelly says, “The connect-the-dots tracking by the team was so good that it even knew Atta conducted meetings with the three future hijackers. One of those meetings took place at the Wayne Inn.
http://www.northjersey.com/page.php?qstr=e…2Y3dnFlZUVFeXk5
The other two hijackers said to be present at the meetings, Nawaf Alhazmi and Khalid Almihdhar, periodically live in the town of Paterson, only one mile away from Wayne.

June 18, 2001:
“The INS belatedly approved Nawaf al Hazmi’s extension of stay to January 15, 2001. Technically, the application was late, since the INS received it in July 2000, after his length of stay had expired; they therefore should not have adjudicated it. However, even with this late adjudication Hazmi was still an overstay as of January 16, 2001. Hazmi never knew that his extension had been approved—the notice was returned as “undeliverable” on March 25, 2002.”
(Terrorist Travel, 25)
June 19-25, 2001:
“Atta and Hazmi probably first met in the United States only when Hazmi traveled round-trip from Newark to Miami between June 19 and June 25.”

Summer 2001 B:
“Sometime over the summer, Alhamzi — along with Salem Alhamzi, another of the men aboard Flight 77 — left a trail in Fort Lee, N.J., just outside New York City. For $60, they rented a mail box at a Mailboxes, Etc. store in a mall, law enforcement officials say.”
(Knight Ridder, 9/28/01)
July 2001:
“Mohamed Atta, Abdul Aziz al Omari, Nawaf al-Hazmi, Salem al-Hazmi, Khalid al-Mihdhar, Ahmed Alghamdi, and Majed Moqed purchased personal identification cards at Apollo Travel in Paterson, New Jersey. ”

August 2001 B:
Alhazmi’s visa has already expired and he is in the country illegally.
http://www.cooperativeresearch.org/timelin…arta072403.html
Comment: Why didn’t he seek a visa that was valid till 911?
August 2001 C:
At least six 9/11 hijackers, including all of those who boarded Flight 77, live in Laurel, Maryland, from about this time. They reportedly include Hani Hanjour, Majed Moqed, Khalid Almihdhar, Nawaf Alhazmi, and Salem Alhazmi. Laurel, Maryland, is home to a Muslim cleric named Moataz Al-Hallak who teaches at a local Islamic school and has been linked to bin Laden. NSA expert James Bamford later states, “The terrorist cell that eventually took over the airliner that crashed into the Pentagon ended up living, working, planning and developing all their activities in Laurel, Maryland, which happens to be the home of the NSA. So they were actually living alongside NSA employees as they were plotting all these things.”

August 2001 D:
“Nawaf al-Hazmi and Hani Hanjour flew from Dulles International Airport to Los Angeles.
Each of the return flights for these hijackers had layovers in Las Vegas. To date, the purpose of these one-to-two day layovers is not known. However, with respect to travel to Las Vegas, we know that at least one hijacker on each of the four hijacked airplanes traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada sometime between May and August of 2001.”
http://intelligence.senate.gov/0209hrg/020926/witness.htm
August 13-14, 2001:
“Like Shehhi, Jarrah, Atta, and Waleed al Shehri before them, Hazmi and Hanjour each flew in first class on the same type of aircraft they would hijack on 9/11 (a Boeing 757), and on transcontinental flights that connected to Las Vegas. This time, however,Atta himself also flew directly to Las Vegas, where all three stayed on August 13-14. ”

August 14, 2001 A:
Alhazmi is witnessed in the Days Inn (Las Vegas at 4155 Koval Lane, near East Flamingo Road.) in Las Vegas.
“The witness said she could not say if Alhazmi was an actual guest at the Days Inn on Koval. His name did not appear in registration records there.”
http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_home/200…s/17309944.html
“A former employee of the Days Inn (Las Vegas at 4155 Koval Lane, near East Flamingo Road.) (…) had a single encounter with Alhazmi during the first two weeks of August in the lobby of the Days Inn.
She tried to make small talk, and Alhazmi said he was briefly staying in Las Vegas on “important business” and would soon be traveling to Los Angeles.
“He was not a very nice person, cold and abrupt,” she said. “He appeared to be waiting for someone.”
(…) The woman said Alhazmi, a native of Saudi Arabia, told her he was taking a trip to Los Angeles. She said he asked for a list of Days Inn properties located in that area, including the city of Whittier. She provided him the list, but he would not let her make a reservation and did not give her his name.
(…) The witness said she could not say if Alhazmi was an actual guest at the Days Inn on Koval. His name did not appear in registration records there.
(…) The witness said she called the FBI immediately after recognizing Alhazmi’s picture on television in late September. “God, I know that guy,” she said of her reaction the moment she saw Alhazmi’s picture on television.
(…) She said there was no mistaking the man’s eyes, and that she picked out Alhazmi’s photo when interviewed by the FBI as well.”
http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_home/200…s/17309944.html
Comment I: This encounter in the first half of August should be the same as the one noted for August 14.
Comment II: Nawaf on the photo is hardly “almost underfed”. Therefore the witness account of the Nawaf Alhazmi at Dulles Airport on 911 is in stark contradiction to the Nawaf seen here in Las Vegas.

In addition, their passport numbers and travel itinerary were to be recorded.192 These lookouts were not used by U.S. airlines to screen passengers seeking to fly on domestic flights.”

“Maria Siscar-Simpson opened her door to two skinny guys she had seen around her Delray Beach condo.
Just kids, she thought at first. But, judging by the rude force with which they pulled on her door, she corrected herself: Men.
They lived in the condo above hers. A rolled-up towel had fallen from their balcony onto a roof outside her back window. They wanted to get it now. They did not say please. Ms. Simpson pulled the door back and shouted, “No!” If they needed a towel, she could get them one.
They looked confused. She told them again in English, Spanish, Italian. They shouted at her and pulled again, determined to get in.
Thank God for Eddie the maintenance man, Ms. Simpson, 54, thinks today. Her pre-Sept. 11 hero.
He shouted the men away.”
http://www.sptimes.com/2002/09/01/911/Flor…ror_s_lau.shtml
Comment : As at Dulles Airport Nawaf is described as skinny. Yet on his official photo hints at a fact that his weight documented on his ID underlines: 148 lb (67 kg) with 5’ 4’’ (162 cm) is hardly what you can describe as “skinny”!
And here we do have apparently the same double of Nawaf living being in Delray Beach.

“At the Pin-Del hotel in Laurel, owner Suresh Patel gave the FBI a registration card showing that Nawaq Alhamzi spent the night of Sept. 1 in Room 7, a dank $43-a-night setup with a TV bolted to the ceiling and two queen-sized beds. The registration card shows that as identification, Alhamzi gave a New York State driver license, listing 161 Lexington Ave. in Manhattan as his address. The building is a hotel whose records show he never stayed there. The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles said it had issued no license to someone with that name. “He was very polite,” said Patel’s wife, Indira, recalling that Alhamzi arrived late and left early. “Whatever I said, he said, ‘OK, OK.’”

However, neighbors at the San Diego apartment complex where the three lived are clear in their assertions that all three were there until days before 9/11. The official, Saleh Ibn Abdul Rahman Hussayen, is interviewed by the FBI shortly after 9/11, but according to testimony from an FBI agent, the interview is cut short when Hussayen “feign(s) a seizure, prompting the agents to take him to a hospital, where the attending physicians (find) nothing wrong with him.” The agent recommends that Hussayen “should not be allowed to leave until a follow-up interview could occur.” However, that “recommendation, for whatever reason, (is) not complied with.” Hussayen returns to Saudi Arabia a few days later, as soon as the US ban on international flights has ended.

“Within the next 20 minutes (after 7:15), they would be followed by Hani Hanjour and two brothers, Nawaf al Hazmi and Salem al Hazmi. (…) The Hazmi brothers were also selected for extra scrutiny by the airline’s customer service representative at the check-in counter. He did so because one of the brothers did not have photo identification nor could he understand English, and because the agent found both of the passengers to be suspicious. The only consequence of their selection was that their checked bags were held off the plane until it was confirmed that they had boarded the aircraft. (…) A short time later (after 7:35), Nawaf and Salem al Hazmi entered the same checkpoint. Salem al Hazmi cleared the metal detector and was permitted through; Nawaf al Hazmi set off the alarms for both the first and second metal detectors and was then hand-wanded before being passed. In addition, his over-the-shoulder carry-on bag was swiped by an explosive trace detector and then passed. The video footage indicates that he was carrying an unidentified item in his back pocket, clipped to its rim.”
